Imagine you're walking down a street in a foreign city looking for dinner. You see two restaurants: one is completely empty, and the other is packed, with a small line out the door. Which one do you choose?
Most people will pick the crowded one. This is Social Proof in action. Our brain takes a shortcut: if all these other people chose it, it must be safe and high-quality. We are terrified of being the first to take a risk.
