The Button You Just Have to Click

Imagine downloading two language-learning apps. Both offer the exact same vocabulary and grammar lessons. Yet, you log into one every single day like it's your job, while you completely forget about the other after 24 hours. Why?

The difference isn't in the button colors or the typography. The difference is behavioral design.

We love to think that users make purely rational decisions: " This app is more useful, so I will use it. " But in reality, our attention is hijacked by dopamine loops and primal survival instincts.

Behavioral design studies how an interface can nudge a person toward desired actions, form lasting habits, and build emotional attachment to a product. And the first step to achieving this is understanding motivation.
